A log book service is more than changing the oil and ticking a few boxes. It is a scheduled maintenance process designed around the vehicle manufacturer's recommended intervals, helping maintain performance, reliability, safety and long-term vehicle condition.

Whether your car is brand new or has plenty of kilometres behind it, following its servicing schedule can help identify developing problems before they become expensive repairs.

Cars don't always tell you when something is beginning to go wrong. A vehicle may continue driving normally while oil becomes degraded, filters become restricted, belts deteriorate or fluid levels change. Small issues can eventually affect other components, leading to reduced performance, increased fuel consumption or unexpected breakdowns.

Warning signs such as unusual noises, changes in engine performance, dashboard lights, fluid leaks or increased fuel use shouldn't be ignored—but waiting for symptoms isn't a substitute for scheduled maintenance.

You don't have to return to the vehicle dealer for routine servicing simply because your car is under a manufacturer's warranty. The ACCC confirms that consumers can generally choose an independent repairer, provided servicing is carried out by qualified staff, to the manufacturer's specifications and using appropriate quality parts where required.

As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre, Halfway Motors can service new and older vehicles while following the applicable manufacturer service requirements. Keep your service records and make sure the log book is correctly completed.

Regular servicing provides an opportunity to inspect components that wear or deteriorate with time and use. This is particularly important around Nhill, where changing weather, temperature variations and country-road driving can place additional demands on tyres, brakes, suspension and cooling systems.

An often-overlooked benefit: a scheduled service can identify a developing fault when it is still a maintenance issue rather than waiting until it becomes a breakdown.

For log book servicing for new, used and older vehicles in Nhill, contact Halfway Motors. Your local independent Repco Authorised Service centre can help keep your vehicle performing as it should while following the manufacturer's servicing requirements.

3. Loose Fuel Cap - Loose fuel caps allow oxygen to enter the fuel tank which can negatively affect the car's performance and cause the 'Check Engine' light to appear.

Do you need a Certificate of Roadworthiness?

Vehicles are required by law to be certified as roadworthy when a vehicle is sold, needs to be re-registered, or needs to clear defect notices, a Certificate of Roadworthiness, or 'RWC', must be obtained. This certifies that the vehicle is safe to use on public roads, but not necessarily that it is mechanically reliable.

N.B. Purchasers of a vehicle - if you purchase a vehicle without a valid RWC, it is then your responsibility to have this done before the vehicle can be registered in your name.

The cost of these inspection varies depending on the type of vehicle requiring a Certificate of Roadworthiness. Please call us for pricing.

A defect notice is issued when a car fails to satisfy the required regulations of roadworthiness. Defect notices can be issued by the authorities like Victoria Police, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, VicRoads Vehicle Safety & Registration Services, Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria and interstate authorities of equal ranking.

After fixing the defects as specified on the notice, you will be required to get another Roadworthy Certificate before you can present it to a VicRoads Service Centre.

We can also arrange for your vehicle to be towed to our workshop if required.

As a special offer, Halfway Motors will waive the Retest Fee if defects are repaired in our Nhill workshop. That is a real bonus!

The roadworthy inspection is a check of the vehicle to make sure that key components are in a good enough condition for safe road use. It includes:

steering, suspensions and braking systems

windscreen, and windows including front wipers and washers

other safety related items on the body, chassis or engine

The roadworthiness test isn’t a check of the mechanical reliability or general condition of a vehicle. For a Comprehensive Vehicle Report speak to our expert service team and discuss your requirements.
